Anti-Piracy and Sea Robbery Conference 2024

The ReCAAP ISC, together with co-organisers the Asian Shipowners Association (ASA), INTERTANKO and the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), will be holding the Anti-Piracy and Sea Robbery Conference on Tuesday, 16 April during Singapore Maritime Week 2024.

IMO Sec-Gen, Mr Arsenio Dominguez, will be delivering the keynote address at the conference. Senior representatives from the shipping associations, maritime community, enforcement agencies and academia will discuss the growing risks to global shipping caused by evolving maritime challenges, geopolitical tensions, the impact on commercial shipping, and the cumulative effect of disruption to global supply chains. 

Panelists will discuss how the global maritime system can stay resilient and how shipping companies can adapt and develop innovative ideas and strategies to manage and mitigate the evolving maritime challenges towards enabling uninterrupted flow of maritime trade and commerce.

PANEL 1 – HOW RESILIENT IS THE GLOBAL MARITIME SYSTEM?

The  growing attacks on global shipping in various parts of the world is of great concern  as the cumulative effect of disruption to the global supply chain could be catastrophic. This panel will assess whether the current impact that is being felt will have long-lasting effect to the global shipping in re-routing, adoption of BMP, incurring higher insurance premium and overall cost as we know it to be, and consider the implication to the Asian region.

PANEL 2 – EXPLORING NEW WAYS IN ADAPTING TO THE CHANGING MARITIME ENVIRONMENT

The increase of incidents, severity, and threats of robbery in the region, in particular the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS); and how Asia as well as the littoral states (Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore) have to adapt to suppress maritime crimes, what are the implications, preventive measures for the shipping community including reporting and response mechanism, the best practices that need to be embraced for safe passage.  This panel will share new innovative ideas, strategies, and measures to mitigate the evolving maritime challenges to ensure safe and secure seas in the region.
